The Rihanna Only Girl in the World Video and Carnival Bras
| January 28, 2011 | 4:07 pm | Uncategorized | Only Pings

Have you seen the Only Girl in the World video yet? At about the thirty-second mark Rihanna can be seen in a Number 213 plunge lace longline brassiere from Carnival Bras, of National Mills, Inc. This is an established ladies’ intimates company that sells to the likes of Macy’s and other famous retail stores and fashion outlets. Noting celebrity attire is an offshoot of the general celebrity watching hobby, but observations are normally set aside for dresses and the like, not intimates – which, mind you, Rihanna is wearing as a non-intimate in her Only Girl in the World video!

Reflections on the 1040 Form
| January 28, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

A 1040 Form isn’t hard to fill out.
Actually, it’s the easiest tax form available in the United States (though an even simpler – that is, more streamlined – one exists, called the “1040EZ”).

It’s only all of two pages, the 1040 Form.
It’s the instructions, however, that really intimidate folks.
But even then things are in fact pretty simple and straightforward.
Though running many, many pages, instructions are simple to follow and, in a great majority of cases, one can skip over almost all the text as much concerns all the various cases that might be possible, areas which if not applicable to oneself may be skipped.

So why do people still hire others to fill out and file a 1040 Form for them?
It’s not clear.
The worldwide web has made tax season a much less difficult matter, with interactive help that’s immediate and often relevant.
And for the typical 1040 filer, it’s free!
Along with private companies such as Intuit (more on this later), the IRS has made federal tax preparation and electronic filing services free of charge to people making under a certain amount of money; the cut-off has been about twenty-five thousand dollars for the last few years.

Such a cut-off means that only poor people can rely on this kind of help even though the IRS had first suggested to move all American tax reporting online, by way of its own website.
But the makers of tax accounting software, big-name companies like Intuit, Microsoft, and the like, lobbied hard for the government to stay out of the business.
A compromise was eventually brokered, resulting in the current system whereby federal taxes are prepared and filed for free for those making less than twenty-five grand a year.
State and other local taxes have no coverage under this agreement, even though generally they cost a few dollars for most people.

Getting a good night’s sleep is a problem, because of this increasingly all-hours society of ours where it seems practically everything is available anytime at all. Using 3M ear plugs is a terrific way to help get the rest you need when the neighbors (or your roommates) are busy producing some kind of commotion. You can’t get better than that if you need to filter out a racket. Even if initially made to protect one’s hearing at the rifle range or at the metal shop, they’re essentially superb when it comes to getting some sound sleep. Try it and see for yourself how quiet and calm bedtime can be!

It appears just about everyone is looking to get into business some day, but addressing the matter of what to sell is what stops just about everyone. “Solving the problem” means fully answering it, working out every one of the nitty-gritty details of who, what, when, and where — and exactly how much. What will you be providing? Who would want it? How much will you offer it for?

Et cetera. Starting out, it is probably best if you just start small. For example, rather than creating another Google or Microsoft, why not sell something simple — like disposable ear plugs? Seriously, it could be a great way to learn and practice business!

Melissa and Doug Not Just Childs Play

Even in this economy, Melissa and Doug toys remain popular gifts.
Coming from an All-American design team centered at company headquarters in Wilton, Connecticut, the upscale educational toymakers have been able to post year after year of growth for almost two decades.
But it’s not all fun and games at Melissa and Doug; the company’s success is the result of one of the most astute of business masterminds anywhere, the eponymous husband-and-wife team of co-founders who employ one of the hardest job interviews this side of Silicon Valley to split up the geniuses from the merely talented.

With a move that could seem more ideal for a technology firm or, even, the cut-throat realm of high finance, hopeful applicants are put to a grueling timed test developed to push their problem-solving skills to the limits.
Though a toymaker, Melissa and Doug is first and foremost a successful business with global operations and can afford nothing but the best.
Belying its cautiously nurtured image as a good old-fashioned fun American company, it is truly a tough-nosed profit-making darling of Wall Street.
Certainly, the brand is famous in part due to the appearance on media from print to television, from The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal to The Oprah Winfrey Show.

But it isn’t just a toymaker anymore, either – though it has stayed close to its roots, now offering classroom supplies and arts and crafts products in addition to toys and playsets.
After all, what could be more “educational” than playing with objects commonly encountered in school!

The educational toy business is almost guaranteed to make a profit as no parent can withstand the urge to splurge on something that claims to help their kids develop their smarts.
With two hundred employes in the United States and another one thousand around the world, this is one company that is poised to keep making toys and money!

Buying Wholesale Sterling Silver on the WWW
| January 24, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

Wholesale sterling silver isn’t the kind of thing that could be easily obtainable to the general public.
It isn’t like you type the word into a search engine and you get a listing of distributors.
Many wholesale commodities are available only at special markets.
For instance, if you wanted thousands of corn, you wouldn’t just go to a local supermarket.

It’s the same thing in regards to wholesale sterling silver.
You simply can’t just walk into a jewelry store and be prepared to get it – so you certainly won’t find it on the internet!
But, speaking of the worldwide web as well as its many search engines, it’s tough to find online for the same reason many other things are hard to fine online – search engines suck.
Even Google is very, very bad at what it does.
Yes, it’s true!

Just try it out yourself: see what entering in “wholesale sterling silver” will get you at google.com.
Go ahead.
Well?
A bunch of jewelers!
Which, as we’ve already noted, isn’t where you go for anything wholesale, whether silver, gold, or platinum.
Obviously, retailers do exist online who offer such things however they are retailers, not wholesalers.
Naturally, some wholesalers should have websites, but they are not easily found, likely due to the lack of search engine optimization, or SEO.

SEO is the science and art of getting a website listed by a search engine for a word or term.
This particular word or phrase is called a keyword.
Targeting specific keywords is often important to a business – for instance, a widget maker would love to be associated with the keyword “widgets” or “widgets on sale” since this signifies he or she could be one of the first listings returned by a search engine whenever a potential customer types in that keyword.
Wholesalers, however, probably do not have as much of an incentive to pay for SEO since they do not advertise to the general public, using their potential customers industry insiders who would discover them through other means.

Tax Season Will Always Invite The 1040 Form To The Tax Ball Promptly
| January 24, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

The 1040 Form is as easy as it will get when it comes to bureaucratic form-filling. Sure, a number of them exists, such as the “A” and “EZ” versions built to streamline the process even further for all those without any intricate financial arrangements. Thus, if you basically go to work and get paid, you can file these relatively simple versions which are only a page or two in total regardless of some sixty to seventy or so line items that might demand your attention.

Everyone has to file a minimum of a 1040 Form, even non-resident aliens, who use the “NR” or, as can be thought possible, an “NR-EZ” version. Well, almost everyone. Generally, those who earn less than a specific amount don’t need to. It is widely believed that anyone making less than six thousand dollars a year need not report their income, but the IRS’ own website seems to indicate otherwise, though it too is not a hundred percent clear on the matter, with figures of three thousand, four hundred (in the case of the self-employed), and even $108.28 (this one governing religious employees) being mentioned.

Filing, however, might be advantageous nevertheless. As an example, an Economic Stimulus Payment, or tax discount, was given to filers in the interests helping to improve the national economy. Also, if income tax had been automatically withheld by one’s employer, filing assures its return from the government. Generally speaking, however, just about everyone has to file some version of a 1040 Form if they made money totally more than a few hundred dollars during the year.

Procrastination is harmful. Filing late may bring about fines and even imprisonment. Again, these forms are pretty effortless to prepare anyway, so there really is no excuse for not getting them completed in timely manner! That’s the way the government will see it.

Human Hair Wigs As Fashion Statements
| January 23, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

Human hair wigs are significantly more expensive than most synthetic makes, but of course there’s nothing quite like the real thing, after all. Many consumers believe they are able to tell the qualitative difference between most representative examples of the two types and will go out of their way to search for products produced from natural human hair. Though technology keeps improving, it appears that only the costliest of synthetic fibers can hope to simulate all the tell-tale characteristics of human hair – but then again, at the price points such samples sell for, one may as well purchase the real thing, which would then cost only slightly more.

The All Persuasive 1099 Form
| January 22, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

Due to the gutting of the American economy by its own citizens – both the politicians which enabled it and the voters who set them in office – more and more companies are hiring (when they do at all, for the relatively few positions still within the country) workers not as employees but independent contractors, individuals who use a 1099 Form when filing taxes.

From a corporate perspective, it makes loads of sense.
One method to become more profitable is to trim costs, and employees cost far more than independent contractors.
Due to worker’s compensation taxes and benefits like health insurance and sick leave, an employee costs much more than just wages or salaries suggest.
Moreover, independent contractors may not occasion the kinds of legal headaches that come through labor law violations and stuff like that.
Basically, once you fill out a 1099 Form, the company is only minimally responsible for you – from your welfare on the job to your actions on the job.

It all sounds so basic.
Independent contractors were first hired only to provide one-time assistance or work.
For example, instead of fielding its own janitorial staff, a company can just hire a devoted janitorial services company once every so often.
However, the concept because adopted for more and more job titles, such that in the 21st Century even a big company will outsource critical professional services such as accounting and legal affairs, making just about everyone a 1099 Form filer.

From a particular mindset, the explosion of independent contractors implies a prevalence of the entrepreneurial spirit.
But the truth is, many such workers are not independent by decision.
And it bodes ill for an economy when the labor force is increasingly without health insurance, sick leave, personal days, and all the other benefits of a traditional employment model, especially when looking at legal protections against abuse.

Entertaining And Educational Toys Knocks Two Brids With One Stone
| January 21, 2011 | 12:00 am | Uncategorized | Only Pings

Given the name, one could be forgiven for assuming that products marketed as so-called educational toys would be centered on some theory of cognitive development or other.
When it comes to such matters, the name of Jean Piaget is one of those which spring most promptly to the mind of an informed observer.
A Swiss developmental psychologist, he made his mark by emphasizing the significance of education on children.
His work has many implications for fields as diverse as philosophy, evolutionary biology, and even artificial intelligence in computers.
So how could someone who subscribed to these theories view the educational toys accessible on today’s market?

Piaget proposed four stages of childhood development.
These are the sensorimotor stage, lasting from birth to about toddlerhood.
Then comes the peroperational stage that gets to about seven years of age.
The third is the concrete operational stage that lasts until about eleven, and last but not least there is the formal operational stage leading to adulthood.
As can be imagined, good educational toys must take appropriate account of the details of each stage.

Do they?
The first phase of development, the sensorimotor, involves hand-eye coordination, favoring toys that can be grabbed and pulled.
This would appear to make just about any object on the planet a “toy!”
And in reality, the vast majority offerings labeled as “educational” are only most useful for this first stage, including dolls and building blocks.
Next up, the preoperational stage, involves toys – and now, games and puzzles too – that allow for a specific amount of role playing too – conceptual matters, in other words.
In the concrete operational stage, those so keen may be amused by such things as robot kits and the like.
Of course, only a child in the formal operational stage needs to be given a full-fledged programmable robot – unless you have a prodigy on your hands!
